OMÉK 2021

Wines of Hungary Personally Wine Seminar Square

The 80th edition of the biggest agribusiness fair of the Carpathian Basin, the National Agriculture and Food Industry Exhibition and Fair (OMÉK) is ready to open its gates this year. It has a history reaching back to 190 years; it was initiated by Count István Széchenyi in 1829 and the first editions were exhibitions of farm animals. The original idea of Széchenyi was to provide an opportunity to strengthen the ties between merchants and customers, and to contribute to the development of an agrarian economy that was well equipped to face the challenges of modern times. He believed it was fertile land that made nations great. The foundations to build upon were strong. For centuries Hungarian food products and crops were seen as representing outstanding quality even by international standards. OMÉK has also contributed to the worldwide recognition enjoyed by Hungarian products today by providing a first class opportunity to farmers and producers to successfully present their commodities and produce to a wide audience coming from abroad and home.

OMÉK has deep roots in the past but its eyes are set on the future. Its mission is to popularize the achievements of 21st century agriculture while helping to preserve and showcase traditional values.

The goal of OMÉK is to introduce the players in agriculture and the food industry, to present healthy, sustainable and GMO-free products, to provide a professional forum for industrial players, where they can discuss the current issues of agribusiness.

Wine Seminar Square

One of the highlights of the Exhibition is Hungarian wine which through its history, individuality and diversity represents the Hungarian wine industry. Those interested in Hungarian wine should visit the Wine Seminar Square at Pavilion E where they can deepen their understanding of the country’s wines by attending guided tastings and presentations, needless to say, by adhering to the rules of civilized alcohol consumption.

For 4 days, three times each day visitors can attend thematic presentations. During the presentations renowned wine experts will share their knowledge with the audience about typical Hungarian varieties, Hungarian sparkling wine, the increasingly popular niche of natural wines and of course the unmissable sweet wines of Tokaj.
