Furmint is considered by many the leading variety of Hungary and even though it was quite common on Szent György Hill before the Phylloxera blight, it has become almost totally extinct in modern times. The grapes coming from the Váradi vineyard were fermented without cultured yeast and then aged in Hungarian oak barrels for 9 months in order to make the character of this noble wine even more harmonious. It has nothing to do with Tokaj but it is every bit a Furmint and unmistakably Szent György Hill.
